One year after launching the OnePlus Watch, OnePlus is once again ready to launch another new smartwatch called OnePlus Nord Watch. It is a sporty smartwatch that got a square design with a 1.78-inch AMOLED screen and is equipped with several upgrades including a fitness tracker, 10 days of battery life, Bluetooth 5.2 and more. However, since electronic devices are used more frequently in daily life, like when you’re doing the dishes or washing your hands, you may be asking whether the OnePlus Nord Watch is waterproof.
Is OnePlus Nord Watch waterproof?
Firstly, you need to know that there’s a difference between “waterproof” and “water-resistant”. “Waterproof” means normal water can never get into the device, while “water-resistant” means normal water is difficult to get into the inside. Basically, no matter how the manufacturer advertises, the devices are water-resistant to some extent depending on IP rating or ATM rating. IP (Ingress Protection) rating, as we know, is widely seen in Android devices and iPhones. ATM (Atmosphere) rating is usually used to define smartwatches or fitness trackers.
So, the answer to whether Nord Watch is waterproof is that it is IP68 water and dust-resistant. That is to say, the watch is resistant to dust, dirt, and sand, and can be submerged in up to 1.5m of water for 30 minutes. It’s no problem to use it for sweaty workouts and rainy days. However, using the watch during strenuous exercise or while in extremely humid environments (like in a sauna or steam room) is not recommended. In addition, since IP68 rated in lab conditions, you should avoid irritant substances like soap, solvents, sunscreen, hand lotions, and insect repellants.
Note that even with an IP68 rating, it doesn’t mean the watch is water-resistant forever. The feature will diminish over time. And because OnePlus officially says that water damage is not covered under warranty, you’d better not risk wearing Nord Watch for scuba diving or any other things just mentioned.
