The 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro 2022 is a big leap in performance over the M1, whether you’re editing photos or videos or running multiple applications at once. On the flip side, however, people may find it confusing as the design of the new MacBook Pro remains unchanged. Same display, same shape, same keyboard and same Touch Bar. And if you’re asking whether M2 MacBook Pro features MagSafe charging, sadly the answer is no.
Port selection is limited: there’re only two USB-C ports (supporting USB 4 and Thunderbolt 3) on the left side and a headphone jack on the right side. There are no configurations featuring additional ports. In fact, while you’re charging your Mac, you have just one USB-C port. The larger Pro model supports SD card slot, HDMI connector, and four USB-C slots, while on M2 MacBook Pro, you need an extra dongle to connect to more accessories.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro also supports external display with resolution up to 6K, but only one. If you want to run two or three external displays of any resolution, you’ll need to step up to the more powerful 14- or 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
As for charging, you can only charge the laptop via USB-C port. The model doesn’t have a MagSafe power connector, though the new MacBook Air does come equipped with one. The good news is that the power adapter now offers 67W over 61W, which means the battery charges slightly faster. In addition, you’ll get the longest battery life among the modern laptops, for up to 20 hours of video playback as Apple claims.
The new MacBook Pro looks archaic compared to the sleek and modern MacBook Air 2022, but undoubtedly it’s still a very capable laptop for professionals. If you’re hesitating whether to buy the M2 MacBook Pro or the M2 MacBook Air, it’s worth waiting for the Air to officially come out later.
