The Samsung A series have been one of the most appreciated mid-range phones for years. Following the grand success of the Galaxy A52, Samsung released the new model Galaxy A53 with great specs, including an octa-core 5nm processor, 6.5-inch AMOLED display, four rear cameras, and 128GB of expandable storage. At the same time, consumers also would like an IP rating just like they see on a flagship.
So, is the Galaxy A53 waterproof? According to Samsung, the Galaxy A53 features an IP67 rating for “water and dust resistance”. That is not as powerful as IP68, but should be more than enough to protect your phone in most scenarios.
What does IP67 actually mean?
When we talk about waterproofing, it is important to note that no device is completely waterproof. All the IP ratings are used to ensure your devices won’t get damaged by accidents, like when you’re out with the phone in the rain, near a tub, or in the shower. Besides, any waterproof smartphones will gradually turn less “waterproof” with daily wear and tear once you start using it.
According to Samsung, the IP67 A53 is “deemed fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and are resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes.” However, the promise is based on freshwater. Beach or pool use is never recommended as salt and chlorine water will do irreversible damage to the components of your phone. Samsung also claims that “low water pressure” is OK, but something like a hot tub jet or garden hose should be avoided.
A waterproof phone is great, but at the same time, you should keep your phone away from water and dust whenever possible.

How to keep your phone safe?
There are times when your phone accidentally gets wet. If that happens, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth immediately. Pay special attention to the earpiece (top front of the phone), primary microphone (bottom of phone), external speaker (bottom of phone), and the power/accessory (USB) interface connector as these are crevices that are most likely to collect water.
Some phones have a special mode to clean water from these crevices by playing a sound with a specific frequency to push the water out.
