Is Huawei P30/P30 Pro waterproof?

Huawei just updated its P flagship line with the dashing P30 and P30 Pro, the most anticipating part is undoubtedly the new camera since the P stands for photography, Huawei P30 features triple rear cameras and P30 Pro features quad rear camera with super zoom, P30 Pro camera is graded as 112 by Dxomark , which excels in the whole benchmark currently. What about other specs, like the waterproof rate of the phone body, is Huawei P30/P30 Pro IP68 waterproof as expected and rumored before?

As Huawei P30 brings the 3.5mm headphone jack back, which was missing on its predecessor P20, the water-resistant function may be affected. Huawei officially announced that P30 is only IP53 water and dust resistant, hence it can not be called a waterproof phone and it’s inferior than new released Samsung Galaxy S10. IP53 rating means it’s protected against limited dust or water splashes but nothing more, you cannot put your phone underwater or wash it under a tap, you cannot even charge it when it is wet or in moist environments. That’s a little annoying and disappointing, but it’s already advanced to be compared with Huawei P20.

While Huawei P30 Pro reaches the highest IP68 waterproof rating, it’s supposed that the headphone jack is cancelled for the superior waterproof spec. It’s capable of being submerged up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes, which is better than IP67 on Huawei p20 Pro. However, the starting price of Huawei P30 and P30 Pro goes higher as well, P30 starts from roughly $900 and P30 Pro is from around $1120, for P20 and P20 Pro the number was about $700 and $900 respectively. 

For a new updated flagship, IP53 water-resistant Huawei P30 is not competitive on the current market, especially for an outstanding-photographing phone, image when you wanna capture a beautiful picture in a heavy rain it may worry you for damaging it due to the low ingress protection. In contrast, Huawei P30 Pro sports the best camera ever, and with the highest IP68 waterproof rating, if you are a fan of smartphone shooting, Huawei P30 Pro is definitely the best option.
