The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are finally there, featuring the same design language as last year on the Pixel 6 devices and several refinements inside, including the new Tensor G2 chip, smarter cameras, and face unlock. So, how’s the Pixel 7/7 Pro’s battery life and charging speed?
On paper, both the phones don’t have any improvements. The Pixel 7 has a 4,355mAh battery cell, which is slightly smaller than Pixel 6’s 4,614mAh. Despite this, Google official claims that the Pixel 7 has an “average battery life during testing of the device was approximately 31 hours.” The reason may be that the new Tensor G2 chip is more power efficient. And in practice, Pixel 7 may last the whole easily, with around 10-20% battery left at the end and a usage like streaming, gaming etc.
While for the Pixel 7 Pro, the battery remains the same as 5,000mAh. Google only promises “beyond 24-hour battery life” on the Pro, offering the new Pro a similar battery life as the predecessor. Due to the bigger battery and variable refreshing rate, the actual battery life may runs out faster, but the Extreme Battery Saver Mode can help. By toggling on the mode, your phone will last up to 72 Hours — the whitelisted apps are still running while other unapproved apps and background services will be suppressed.
When it comes to charging speed, the Pixel 7 series, Google says that users can charge their smartphones up to 50 percent in about 30 minutes with Google’s 30W USB-C Charger that is sold separately. There’s no power adapter in the box, so you need to buy one for your new phone. If you are going for a third-party charger, make sure it’s compatible with USB Power Delivery PPS or a USB-C standard for fast charging.
