Apple released three new smartwatches during its recent Far Out event: Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE 2, and Apple Watch Ultra. Among them, the Apple Watch Series 8 comes with a $399 starting price that rivals the Galaxy Watch 5 and several noteworthy upgrades like new chipset, Crash Detection, and new temperature sensor. But does the new smartwatch support wireless charging?
The answer is yes, the Apple Watch Series 8 support wireless charging, but it still means Apple’s own proprietary charging standard. You can’t charge it with a Qi-certified charging pad.
So, how to charge Apple Watch Series 8? For now, it can only be charged via the magnetic puck that comes with it or a MagSafe charger. You can also use a MagSafe Duo Charger or Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock (sold separately).
To charge the smartwatch, simply Place Apple Watch Magnetic charger on the back of your Apple Watch. The concave end of the charging cable will magnetically snap to the back of your Apple Watch and aligns it properly. Basically, the battery life of Apple Watch Series 8 remains the same as the Series 7, which means “18 hours after an overnight charge”, or 90 time checks, 90 notifications, a 60-minute workout with music playback, and 45 minutes of app use. In terms of audio playback, it offers up to 11 hours from offline storage.
How to save power on Apple Watch Series 8
The overall battery life is much shorter than its competitor: the Galaxy Watch 5, which is claimed to offer up to 50 hours on a single charge. But luckily, you can use low power mode to extend the battery life to 36 hours for the Series 8. This turns off features like always-on display, automatic workout detection, notifications, and cellular. Turn cellular on if you need it, for example, if you stream music or send a message.
