After a long wait, Apple finnaly unveiled its iPhone 12 line together with the HomePod mini at the company’s virtual event on October 13. There are four new phones in total: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The phone has an aluminum frame around the outside, and the edge is less rounded than on recent iPhones. The rear of the phone is made of glass, but much tougher than ever –Apple just called the screen Ceramic Shield, which applied the technology of Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass. So how about the inside? Does the iPhone 12 line support fast charging?
We don’t know exactly about the battery of iPhone 12 yet, but Apple claims that it lasts for 16 hours of video playback –the video which is stored in the phone already instead of streaming. But we’ll learn that when someone does a teardown. On the other hand, the new iPhones have apparently improved on the charging technology. The wired charging speed is 18W, keeping on the ability of getting the battery from zero to 50% in half an hour. Although there is no charging block in the box (and no EarPods, either) except a USB-C to Lightning cable this time, and we’ll have to use the old one or buy a new charger separately. As for the wireless charging, we are glad to know that Apple revives the MagSafe. It allows you to attach a wireless charging pad to the device and prevent your phone from slipping off the charger when you need to use it. Most important of all, the MagSafe charging offers up to 15W, a big step forward from 7.5W wireless charging speed from Apple not long ago, not to mention 5W when the iPhone X and 8 were released in 2017.
However, we need to know that also mean we need to stick to an Apple-approved charger and not one from a non-MagSafe third party, if we want to use the faster wireless charging technology in the iPhone 12 line. Now there are two different options: the MagSafe Charger for charging one device and the MagSafe Charger Duo for charging two simultaneously, the other spot especially designed to charge your Apple Watch.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro release date is set on October 23, and you are able to pre-order on October 16, right in this Friday. While the other two versions will come out on November 13 and open for pre-orders in November 6. Stay tuned for the time and check some cases designed for your new iPhone 12:
