How long to fully charge the new 13-inch Macbook Pro 2020?

The brand new 13-inch Macbook Pro 2020 is finally revealed, along with a much better Magic Keyboard that’s on the Macbook Air and 16-inch Macbook Pro. For the same $1,299 starting price, you can enjoy double the storage, up to 10th gen Intel processors and faster 3733MHz RAM. Other highlights include faster Intel Iris Plus graphics with up to 80% faster performance, the same great Retina Display and long battery life. According to Apple official, the power capacity of this new Macbook is 58.2Wh on the version with two Thunderbolt 3 ports, and 58Wh on that with four Thunderbolts. So, how long does it take to fully charge the new Macbook Pro?

Coming in the box is a 61W USB-C power adapter and two USB-C charge cables, so theoretically, it will take 58.2Wh/61W*70% (power conversion rate) =1.36 hours to charge the Macbook from flat to full. Since you can use it up to 10 hours for wireless web or for other entertainment like Apple TV and movie playback, this charging period is rather acceptable. Is it possible to speed up the charging? Yes, of course. Apple’s 13-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ models have shipped with a 61-watt USB-C power adapter since 2016, but this time, the new models carry a dual power rating of 20.3V/3.0A and 20.2V/4.3A, meaning that these models can also accept Apple’s 87-watt power adapter that previously shipped with the 15-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌.

For those running demanding apps that generate high transient workloads, that means there will be more headroom for the 87-watt adapter to deliver additional power to the machine and the high voltage level will help reduce the charging time. On the other hand, you can use your old lower voltage charger to charge the new Macbook, but note that it may not provide enough power to your computer or can not charge at all if you are using it while charging.

Recommendation for Macbook Pro 2020:

1. Twelve South Curve Stand for Macbook

Laptops are very convenient, but they also ask you to constantly look down at the screen. If you are going to alleviate your tech and neck strain and also create a nice flow when you line your laptop up with other work monitors to create a level workstation, this laptop stand is the best for you.

2.LaCie 2TB Mobile External Hard Drive

Macbook Pros are often used to create media like video and music, which can be quite large and take up too much of the storage. Get a 2TB external storage for under $100, and don’t let those large files bog your Macbook Pro down.

3.OmniCharge 20+ 20000mAh Power Bank

The OmniCharge 20+ 20000mAh is compatible with 60W USB-C laptops like the Macbook Pro 13-inch. It supports passthrough charging, so you can charge it while simultaneously powering to devices via the AC or USB-A ports. It may be a bit more expensive, but its versatility makes it worth the high price tag.
