Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series have received much applause for its comfortable ergonomic design, impressive AMOLED display, and excellent hardware performance since its launch on August 7th, 2019. Many Note lovers may be upset because Note 10 should have been a perfect handset, had it not been for the absence of headphone jack and micro SD card slot, and the shortage of battery capacity. If there is no headphone jack, we still have other options like a USB-C headphone or a wireless earbud. In terms of micro SD card slot, well, smartphones with larger storage being the trend, it is no need to worry about memory expansion anymore and the speed that we run out of storage even cannot keep up with the frequency that we have a new phone. But how about the low capacity battery, say, 3500mAh of Note 10? Is there any solution or improvement?
Battery Capacity of Smartphones
Although sharing the same specs and features with its plus version, Note 10 is 18% smaller in battery capacity than 10 plus. It has just 3500mAh, a number which is kind of awkward for the flagship title. If you are a light user, 3500mAh is more than enough. But if you like watching videos and playing games, you will probably hit a very low battery after about a dozen hours of use. To give a small comparison, Note 9 is equipped with a 4000mAh capacity. And among Samsung flagship smartphones, the largest ones can be Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S10 5G which come with a 4380mAh and 4500mAh of battery respectively. Actually, the whole smartphone industry is developing towards larger battery capacity. According to a report written by 3g.co.uk, Moto G7 Power or Moto E5 Plus and Huawei Mate 20 X all have 5000mAh, the best battery life ever, with four “Samsungs” just following behind.
How Can Note 10 be Charged
Note 10 brings with it 25W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 9W reverse wireless charging. 25 seems to be a not very big figure, but just a few years ago, 10W charging speed was the mainstream. Not to compare with the leads, Huawei’s SuperCharge, which reached 40 watts with its P30 Pro, and OPPO’s Super VOOC, which pushes 50 watts, the 25W of Note 10 is fast enough to top up a 3500mAh battery, nearly halving the time when the max output of Samsung was still 15W. The good news is that Note 10 is bundled with a 25W charger, and it is suggested to use the original one to realize the ideal charging speed.
The other two ways, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging behave more like a gimmick rather than a strong power solution. Most phones in the market wirelessly charge at 10/7.5/5W, slower than 30W and 27W which are claimed respectively by OPPO and Huawei. That is to say, you need around 120 minutes to charge a 3000mAh battery. Reverse wireless charging, however, is designed exclusively for the emergency when your friend’s phone hit a 5% battery and no other socket or charging cable is surrounding you. Needless to say, if your Note 10 needs charging immediately, the only option, probably not that feasible, is to ask help from another phone with reverse wireless charging ability like Huawei Mate30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10.
Solutions to the Low Battery Capacity of Note 10
Concerning how to optimize and extend the battery life of Samsung Galaxy smartphone, Samsung official has given out an article. And because the battery of Note 10 is non-removable, any attempt to change on your own is not recommended. But we still have something to do to protect and extend the battery:
Use Samsung’s original cable and charger as possible as you can. This will ensure a perfect match so that no current will be wasted and little depletion of the device will be made.
Buy Note 10 Plus instead. Of course, this is not an excellent choice, as those who want to buy Note 10 possibly prefer its more compact size or just an acceptable budget. But if you want a Samsung with a large battery capacity and budget is not a big deal for you, just buy the Note 10 sibling instead!
Arm yourself with a power bank or wireless charging pad. Power bank is still the best power solution for most phones. A reliable and large enough power bank will help a lot when your little Note 10 is going to “die”. And wireless charging pad, though charging a bit slow, is still a good choice when there is plenty of time to charge. It is worthy of the name of the backup solution, though.
