At this year’s MWC conference, 5G has become the protagonist of the entire conference. As we can still see many well-known technology exhibitors at this year’s MWC conference, they released new equipment, but also brought the concept of communications technology – 5G, which coming next year, that is, the fifth generations of mobile communication systems.
At this conference, Huawei released the 5G commercial chip Balong 5G01 and the Huawei commercial 5G CPE (user terminal). Meanwhile, ZTE, a network equipment supplier, also exhibited Axom M, a 5G-based smartphone device at this conference, and ZTE said it will implement 5G commercial deployment in the first quarter of 2019.
In addition to releasing the Galaxy S9 on the eve of the conference, Samsung reaped a great deal of attention. Samsung showed a 5G home router and indicated that it will cooperate with Verizon at the end of this year. And at the CES conference earlier this year, Samsung also disclosed that the Exynos 5G modem they are researching is expected to be used for new handsets in 2019.
Intel showed the 5G all-in-one laptop and said the 5G all-Internet laptop is expected to be available in 2019 as soon as possible. Earlier, Intel announced that it has reached a 5G global strategic cooperation agreement with Tsinghua Unigroup. According to the agreement, the finished product will be released simultaneously with the 5G mobile network in 2019 if the research and development progress of both parties goes well.
It is worth mentioning that Intel and KT successfully constructed the world’s first 5G network deployment at this winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Intel will further develop the 5G network with Japanese operator Docomo during the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
Qualcomm, which competes with Huawei and Intel in the 5G market, exhibited the 5G network simulation results (Frankfurt and San Francisco) at this conference. As early as 2016 and 2017, Qualcomm has released and completed the connection test of the Snapdragon X50, and achieved good results. Just prior to the MWC conference, Qualcomm has announced the cooperation with 20 original equipment manufacturers around the world and is expected to introduce an intelligent terminal with the Snapdragon X50 chip in 2019.
