iPhone 7 and later models all come with water-resistance rating, but that doesn’t mean they are permeable to water. Take the iPhone 14 for example, it is rated IP68 and can survive a maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes. However, there’s still the possibility that water can get trapped in the speakers and cause issues later on.
The Apple Watch Series 2 and later models all have a built-in feature known as Water Lock, which plays a series of sounds to eject water out of the device. Similarly, you can also push out water trapped inside your iPhone speakers by playing some sound. Here’s how.
Use Water Eject shortcut
Water Eject is a third-party you can download for free from RoutineHub, a community where developers post their shortcuts for iOS. Before you begin, make sure you’ve allowed untrusted shortcut on your iPhone: Settings>Shortcuts>turn on Allow Untrusted Shortcuts.
Download and add the Water Eject shortcut directly from this link. Set your iPhone’s volume to the highest, then go to My Shortcuts and tap the Water Eject shortcut to run it. Once the shortcut is activated, the ultralow 165Hz-frequency sound will help vibrate the trapped water out.
Similar methods include using the Sonic app from the App Store or playing sound on a tone-generator website like FixMySpeaker or Online Tone Generator. Feel free to use any of them you like.
Other recommendations
As soon as your iPhone gets wet, firstly wipe the device with a soft, lint-free cloth, then tap it gently against your hand with the Lightning connector facing down to remove excess liquid. If you accidentally spilled liquid other than water on your iPhone, rinse the affected area with tap water right away.
If you find the above methods can’t totally push out all the water, Apple also recommends using a fan or blower to accelerate the water evaporation. After air drying for several hours, if you still believe that your iPhone speakers still sound muddy, contact Apple Support or authorized service center for further inspection.
