Apple unveiled a smaller and more affordable version of the HomePod, HomePod mini. It shares most features of HomePod and boasts impressive audio quality for its size. What’s more, it comes with a new feature called Intercom, a Thread radio that lets it act as a smart home hub. You can send messages from one Apple device to another across rooms. Intercom can work with iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and CarPlay.
Does HomePod have Intercom feature?
Apple Intercom sounds so great. We will cost only $99 to experience this new feature. But what if we already had a HomePod? Can we still have a chance to get this cool feature?
The answer is YES! HomePod software 14.1 were released to the public and arrived with support for the new Intercom feature. Now you can communicate with your family or housemates in new ways.
How to use Intercom on HomePod and iPhone?
To use Intercom feature, first of all, you should update your HomePod to software 14.1. For iPhone and iPad, it requires updating to iOS 14.2 or iPadOS 14.2. And you must update Apple Watch’s software to watchOS 7.1. After you update them, Intercome will be automatically turned on.
Set up Intercom on iPhone or iPad.
- Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
- Tap Home > Home Settings.
- Tap Intercom. Enable Intercom for each of the HomePod speakers you wish to use it on and choose the members of your Home who can access to Intercom.
- Tap Back, then tap Done.
Send an Intercom message from iPhone or iPad
- Open the Home app.
- Tap the Intercom icon located near the top right.

Speak the Message that you would like to send to the home, then tap Done to send.
(To cancel a message, tap the X icon or tap anywhere outside the intercom screen.)
Or you can ask Siri to send an Intercom message from any Apple device you have include HomePod and HomePod mini. Say something like:
- “Hey Siri, intercom ”Come and have lunch.”
- “Hey Siri, ask everyone ”Where are you”
