Pixel 4 is Google’s one of the latest attempts at making a phone that shows off the best of Android. You can see a mix of good features like the flagship photography ability, the beautiful 90Hz display, and the solid easy-to-grip design. However, if you are looking for a long-lasting phone for your mobile gaming or video watching, you may be a bit disappointed. Pixel 4’s battery life is mediocre at best, with just 2800mAh, even 115mAh smaller than its predecessor Pixel 3.
It’s frustrating to find such a short battery on a modern flagship phone. If you pick up the phone fully charged in the morning, you will probably notice it dying in the early evening. It simply can’t last a full day. Fortunately, Pixel 4 comes with excellent fast charging technology. It will jump from zero to 50% of battery in just 38 minutes if you use the USB-C charger in the box. A full recharge might take a bit longer time, about one hour and 53 minutes. This is acceptable considering that fast technology is designed to boost the power input and slows down later to protect the phone. Pixel 4 also supports wireless charging, which means you can put your phone on the charging pad to ensure it is topped up the whole day.
On the other hand, there are plenty of methods you can do to prevent the phone from draining out the battery too fast. You don’t have to do all of these things, but switching off the things that you don’t value can boost that battery a lot.
- Delete the apps that you don’t use much. Turn to the Adaptive Battery in the Settings icon, check which apps and games on your phone you don’t actually use, and uninstall them.
- The “Location” function is a potential battery drainer. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > Permission manager and adjust the permissions that you don’t really need. You can also reduce the frequency certain permissions are allowed.
- 90Hz refresh rate is great, but it can be a heavy burden on the battery. Go to Settings > Display > Advanced > Smooth display and you can toggle it off.
- Pixel 4’s air gesture technology is really convenient. Sometimes it can be too vigilant for movement nearby. If you are not that into it, go to Settings > System > Motion Sense to switch it off.
- Turn on the Dark Mode in Display, and you will have a rather cool and battery-saving display. Pixel 4 has an OLED display and pixels are lit individually. When the Dark Mode is on, most of them are not lit, so less power is consumed.
