A month ago, there are still a lot of rumors saying that Apple might kill its proprietary Lightning port and apply USB-C ports on 2019 iPhones. However, according to a report from Mac Otakara, a Japanese tech site which has successfully predicted that the 2018 iPad Pro would drop Lightning and adopt USB-C, states that the next iPhones will be equipped with a Lightning connector rather than a USB-C port. It also claims that 2019 iPhones (including iPhone 11) will once again include Apple’s standard 5W USB-A charger in the box.
The 2018 iPad Pro bounces to USB-C because Apple is positioning it as a laptop replacement. USB-C port makes it compatible with a variety of hubs and accessories which are meant for USB-C laptops. But as 9to5Mac noted, Apple’s decision will help them to save a barrel of money due to the scale of production the company has reached with the last few generations of iPhones.
However, the iPhone battery capacity has increased and the fast-charging has been featured since 2017’s iPhone 8, which means using the old Lightning cable with a 5W adapter will take longer to charge than in years past.
