Google Pixel has been regarded as the camera king since its debut, this year the new Pixel 3 XL launched with excellent camera as always, great A.I. features, fingerprint-free rear glass design and a really ugly notch. Since the Pixel 3 was widely criticized with the short battery life, what about the Pixel 3 XL? Does it perform better?
The Pixel 3 XL has a 3430mAh battery, which supports USB-Power Delivery fast charging. It’s not as big as the 4000mAh in Samsung Galaxy Note 9, it seems like to be solid enough to support all-day use. However, the testing result is quite disappointing, for heavy users, the Pixel 3 XL’s battery life performance lags behind, it drains a lot of power when streaming music or video, especially using Bluetooth connection, not to mention big game playing.
According to Tom’s guide test result, Pixel 3 XL is able to surf web at 150 nits of screen brightness for 9 hours and 30 minutes, it’s not extra short, but below the 9 hours 48 minutes’ smartphone average. It’s even much less than the Pixel 2 XL ( around 12 hours ), that’s an unacceptable issue Google should pay attention to. Below is the battery benchmark for average users. How to prolong the battery life of Pixel 3 XL?
1.Check the battery consumption status
The best way to fix the battery life problem is to find out where the juice is going. Even though Google claimed that the new Android Pie features to turn off power-hungry apps you don’t use (by turn on the Adaptive Battery in Settings,Display), will get you more battery life, you should probably check the battery consumption for more detailed info.
Open Settings, tap Battery and the top-right menu button to check Battery Usage, and find out what app is draining your phone the most. If you haven’t used an app much but it’s using higher than 10% of your battery, you should consider checking in on that app to see if everything is working properly. You’ll also see if there are odd outliers like “Android OS,” which could indicate a system-level problem that’s hung up or gotten stuck syncing and needs to be fixed with a setting change or just a reboot.
2.Adjust the display
Pixel 3 XL will downgrade the pixel count to Full HD+ instead of QHD+ when the battery life is quite low, you might not notice the difference, that’s one of the pros of Android Pie system. If you don’t mind missing the notifications when the screen is inactive, you can turn off the ambient display in the Display Settings. It will slightly help prolong Pixel 3 XL’s battery life.
3.Avoid using unreliable charger
Overheating would cause battery degrade, unreliable chargers will easily make the phone get warm or overheated, especially wireless charger. Pixel 3 XL supports 18W quick charge and Qi wireless charging, if you would prefer use a 3rd party charger, please go with branded ones, like Anker or Belkin.
