2 Best VR headsets for PC of 2016

#1 HTC Vive

Current Price: $799.99

HTC Vive is a virtual reality headset developed by HTC and Valve Corporation. It is designed to utilize room scale technology to turn a room into 3D space via sensor. The virtual world is merged allowing the user to navigate naturally with the ability to walk around and use motion tracked handheld controllers to manipulate objects vividly.

Inside of the HTC Vive box, there are a headset, a link box, two motion controllers and two base stations. The headset contains 32 motion-tracking sensors all over the surface of its front bell and the only optical camera located in the lower center of the panel. There is a small knob on the right side can adjust pupillary distance to adjust focus. The Vive has a single 2,160-by-1,200 LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate. There is a triple cable running over the top strap to connect the Vive’s link box, which then connects to your PC. It’s about 10 feet. It’s long enough to move in a room, but it’s still easy to get caught on if you don’t pay attention to where it is. The two motion controllers are loaded with motion and positioning sensor. You have to play game or make operation with the help of it. The two base stations to determine the positions of the headset and controllers. During games, the virtual walls consistently appear when the headset or either motion controller gets near one of the boundaries you set, and if you enable the camera, the headset will display objects around you as glowing monochrome outlines as soon as you get close to the edge of your play area.

The Vive depends on Valve’s SteamVR platform, which lets you browse and load VR games either directly from the Steam client on your pc desktop, or through a virtual space displayed in the Vive headset. HTC also provides its own Vive Home VR software. However, it’s impossible to access VR titles from the Oculus Store. How to Make a VR Headset from a Happy Meal Box

HTC and Vive recommend a PC with at least an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 290 GPU, an Intel i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 CPU, 4GB of RAM, HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 video output, a USB 2.0 port, and Windows 7 SP1 or above.

#2 Oculus Rift

Current Price: $599.99

Oculus Rift is developed and manufactured by Oculus VR, a division of Facebook Inc. The Oculus Rift headset is simple, light and comfortable. You can even wear it with your glasses on, just a bit tighter than taking off glasses. The headset connects to your PC directly through a long cable that splits off near the end into HDMI and USB 3.0 connectors. Different from HTV Vive with inner sensor, the Rift uses a single external sensor, a black cylinder which sits on a nine-inch-tall metal desktop stand. The sensor can tilt up and down, and must be placed where it can maintain a clear view of the headset when in use. There is a 2,160-by-1,200 OLED panel is used to produce a 1,080-by-1,200 picture for each eye.

The Oculus Touch motion controllers are optional addition, but the headset still comes with some control options out of the box. The Oculus Remote is inside of the box. It is a small, rounded remote control. The remote helpfully features a lanyard to keep it attached to your wrist when you’re using the Rift. The box also includes an Xbox One wireless controller and a Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows with which you can use it.

Although the Rift has motion controls, it doesn’t support whole-room VR like the HTC Vive. You can just use it while sitting or standing, and can draw a small area in which to play in front of your desk. You have to be very careful not to trip over by the wire or bump into the wall. While SteamVR isn’t the Rift’s native platform, it displays the interface and loaded the game perfectly. You can also load it with Virtual Desktop, a program that projects your computer’s screen in front of you in virtual space.

Oculus recommends an Intel i5-4590 or better CPU, an Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290 or better video card, at least 8GB of RAM, an HDMI 1.3 output, three USB 3.0 ports, and one USB 2.0 port.

These two above are the best VR headsets for PC of 2016 I want to recommend you. It will be a lot of more advanced VR products coming into market in 2017. Let’s expect.
