from different nations. However, popular customs of the holiday usually include gift giving, completing an advent calendar or wreath, singing Christmas songs and caroling, an exchange of Christmas cards, church services and a special meal with our family members and friends sometimes.
Actually, there are so many fun and harmonious activities on the usually 12-days Christmas holiday. But there are several symbols when the Christmas coming.
What We Usually Do on Christmas Day?
Decorating our house for Christmas
The possibilities for decorating are nearly endless. In order to make a warm and happy atmosphere, Christmas lights are often put on our house with mistletoe hanging in the doorways and homemade wreath on the door. And sometimes Christmas figurines like Santa or Rudolph are put on our counters. Besides, a decorated Christmas tree, which is often cut by our own in a local Christmas tree farm or bought from a lot pre-cut Christmas trees, is a necessity to celebrate Christmas. Of course, the picked Christmas tree should fit our house. The procedure of decoration is one of the most enjoyable moment when family and friends corporate with each other happily!
Exchanging Christmas cards
Christmas card is a part of the traditional celebration of Christmas in order to convey among people rang of
sentiment related to the Christmas and holiday season. We are accustomed to exchanging our cards during the preceding Christmas Day with some greeting words like “wish you a merry Christmas and Happy New Year”.
Joining up with friends and family and invite them for a special dinner
Christmas, to some extent, is about gathering with our family and friends to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate the holiday. Today most of us get a day off so that we can hold parties and have fun. Preparing an abundant Christmas dinner for our beloved is really a significant thing to make the winter a little warmer by sharing our warmth of care to our family and friends. The mainstays on the table are roast, turkey, beef, ham or pork; stuffing mashed potatoes and gravy, squash, roasted root, vegetables are common.
And common desserts include pumpkin pie, plum pudding or Christmas pudding and mince pie. Of course, you can make whatever you want for Christmas dinner as gathering the people you want and enjoying the moment of companying is your real destination.
During dinner we always exchange gifts and we’d like to open them immediately which makes the person who gives us present happier. Furthermore, Christmas songs are also welcomed by most of us, even though your voice isn’t so great, for we just want to share our enjoyment!
There are many other symbols such as Santa Claus, who is the most loved one by children, church services and advent calendar. However, a shower of snow at Christmas Day, which I think, is one of the most symbolic celebrations to a perfect Christmas holiday!
