Do you know the new features of Apple IOS17?

Apple has introduced some new features to the Maps app in iOS 17. The changes in the Maps app aren’t as dramatic as some of the new additions we’ve seen in previous software updates, but there’s at least one long-awaited feature.

This article describes everything that’s changed or added in the iOS 17 Maps app.

Offline map

Maps can be downloaded so you can use them offline in iOS 17, which is useful when you don’t have a cellular or WiFi connection. You can save specific areas of the map to your device so that you can access them offline. Saving keeps everything like time of operation and ratings, plus it allows turn-by-turn navigation, thus the Maps app basically works as if it were connected to the Internet, but it doesn’t update real-time traffic information.

You can search for any location or set a pin in the maps app and select the “Download” option to get offline maps. Clicking the download button brings up a drag and drop interface where you can choose how many maps to download.

Apple allows the download of complete maps of cities and surrounding areas, so you can download a map of a certain city. Apple lists the size of each downloaded map, which is based on the area you select and the content in that area. A small selection might be as little as 200MB, but larger areas with lots of roads and businesses might be 3GB or more.

Limited service warning

If you’re looking for directions through an area that doesn’t typically have cellular coverage, the Maps app will suggest that you download maps for offline use.

As of now, this feature is available for national parks located in the United States.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station

Apple Maps now shows EV owners real-time available charging stations along the map. Users can select a charging station based on their vehicle, viewing only those that are compatible with their vehicle.

Interface update

As you use the navigation function, the Maps app displays clickable icons for driving, walking, transit, and other options, no drop-down menus required. But the arrival time and avoidance preference options are still the same as the drop-down menus in iOS 16.

iOS 17 map app voice adjustments

In the navigation interface, you can tap the ^ button to see the new speech volume option, which allows you to adjust the volume of spoken directions. Options include Softer, Normal, and Louder.

Other new options include adding stops, sharing ETAs and reporting incidents.
