Do You Know the Hidden Features of Samsung Phones

Whether you have the Samsung Galaxy S22, Z Fold 3 or one of the other best Samsung phones, Galaxy smartphones are packed with tons of hidden features that you might not know about.

The features described in this article will change the way you use your phone.

1. Like it or not, selfies are now part of everyday life. Whether you take 50 a day or, like me, one every Christmas, Samsung phones have a cool way to make selfies more flexible.

To activate the selfie gesture on a Galaxy, open the Camera app and tap the settings cog in the upper left corner. Scroll to the bottom and tap “Shooting Methods.” Next, tap the switches next to “Voice Command” and “Show Palm.”

You can now activate the shutter by saying “smile,” “cheese,” capture,” or “shoot” — and this works for both the front and rear cameras. To take a selfie or record a video using gestures, just raise your palm Front camera, or say “record video”.

2. Tucked away in the Settings menu is the ability to have your camera’s flash or display light up when you get a notification or an alarm goes off. For whatever reason, this feature is perfect if you can’t hear your phone or don’t want it to vibrate.

To enable it, head to Settings, Accessibility, and then Advanced Settings. Next, tap Flash Notifications. You can tap the toggle to turn it on or off through each setting, and even choose which apps it applies to and which you want your screen to flash color.

3. Tired of your alarm clock and dare to try to wake you up on demand? If you don’t want to fumble around in the dark trying to silence it, you can turn the phone over or place your hand on the screen to silence the alarm. This also works for incoming calls, silencing them instead of canceling them.

To turn this feature on, go to Settings, Advanced Features, then Motions & Gestures. Now, tap Toggle Mute with Gesture to activate it.

4. It’s not just Zoom that lets you blur your surroundings or choose an exotic background. Samsung’s Video Call Effects feature lets you natively do what was previously reserved for dedicated video calling apps, applying background effects to calls on Duo, Messenger, Meet, WhatsApp, and more.

To activate this feature, head to Settings, Advanced Features, and click on the toggle for Video Call Effects. Now, if you click on the word Video Call Effects, you’ll see a bunch of options, including the ability to choose a default background color or choose a background image.

When you’re on a video call, you’ll see a new icon in the upper right corner. Tap the icon to see your call background options, as well as the ability to boost the microphone for better clarity.
