Is the Google Pixel 7a’s camera any good?

According to reports, a team of experts recently conducted rigorous camera tests on the Google Pixel 7a, measuring its performance in terms of photo, video and zoom quality from the perspective of users. The test breaks down the device’s performance in several common-use cases, with the aim of extracting the captured data to highlight the most important results of this test.

     In their camera tests, the Google Pixel 7a performed very well, showing improvements in all aspects compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 6a. While the Pixel 7a’s hardware isn’t as sophisticated as the Pixel 7 Pro’s and doesn’t have a dedicated telephoto camera like the Pixel 7’s, it uses the Google Tensor G7 chip-set like the rest of the Pixel 2 series devices.

Overall, image results are close to the Pixel 7’s data, especially in the Photo and Zoom categories. When it comes to video detail, however, the 7a doesn’t quite match the more expensive models. In terms of still imaging, testers are said to be particularly pleased with the 7a’s color and skin tones rendering. When zooming, the 7a also performs well at the ultra-wide-angle end of the zoom range, but since there is no dedicated telephoto lens, the image details of the telephoto zoom are not exactly the same as those of some competing products such as Mi 13. In video mode, the Pixel 7a’s data performance is generally good in most situations, but it has some weaknesses such as color and detail rendering.

Despite some hiccups, the Google Pixel 7a is an easy recommendation for any buyer looking for great camera performance at the high end.

In low-light environments, the camera’s ability to capture detail and color is on par with more expensive smartphones. This is largely due to the functional effect of the Pixel 7a’s large image sensor and large aperture, allowing it to capture a lot of light and prevent image noise.

Also, the Google Pixel 7a does quite well for still images, ranking second in its price segment only behind the Google Pixel 7. No wonder experts say they especially like the camera’s color and skin tones rendering. Exposure is also great in most conditions, and dynamic range is fairly wide, resulting in excellent detail in both highlight and shadow areas of the frame. Autofocus is responsive and works accurately, but the shallow depth of field means objects in front of or behind the main subject in the scene are out of focus.

Images show good detail in most lighting conditions, but still can’t quite match the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. We can also observe higher noise levels when taking pictures indoors or in low light compared to other 7-series phones.
