Google just announced Pixel Buds A-Series, the third try of their wireless eadbuds. Despite a rather affordable price of $99, they are not at all cheap in its quality. For the design, they are nearly identical to the predecessor, 2020 Pixel Buds, while for the inside, good features are kept and some old issued are solved.
They are still hands-free with “hey Google” voice demands and has an IPX4 water and sweat resistance. As for the battery life, Pixel Buds A-Series offers the same 5 hours of use and altogether 24 hours in case. So, how about the legacy? Has Google solved the remaining problems or made any upgrade, such as the persistent audio cut outs and ANC?

The good news is that Google uses an upgraded chipset in Pixel Buds A-Series, allowing each earbud to connect independently to your phone. Therefore, you can expect a stronger connection between the Buds and your phone, and the audio dropouts should be prevented. However, for those ANC lovers, the new Pixel Buds may let you down again. Though Google claimed the Buds have “Adaptive Sound”, which can subtly and automatically optimizes volumn based on the ambient noise level, they are not actually noise cancellation. While you are outdoor, you will still constantly be annoyed by the surrounding noise, whether it is from rapidly moving train, continual talking or your children playing. Besides, because of the airy and vented design, all these noises may be amplified.

In quiet environment, on the other side, the sound performance can get really good. They produce a balanced-sound with clear lows, mids, and highs. And they offer better performance for tracks which want a driving bassline –benefiting from the newly-added Bass Boost option.
All in all, for people who want to stay connected with the surroundings while using a pair earbuds, Pixel Buds A-Series would be a useful and budget option. While for those who cares a lot about noise cancellation, Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro may be better for you.
