Whatever, I am that Mobile Fanboy

What is a fanboy? Well, A fanboy, in short, is a brand loyalist of sorts, who is known for vigorously following specific brands, platforms or trends, surely sometimes blindly. Noted that, to be a fanboy, that seems to have little to do with a person’s occupation, for example, some are casual users, some are gamers, and some are workaholics.

In most cases, people try to use “fanboy” as a pejorative. Actually, I wanna say, “Please don’t take it to heart.” Or, whatever, I am that mobile fanboy, if taking tech industry for an example. 

While looking at tech industry and talking about “I am that mobile fanboy”, you may like Android, Google or any particular manufacturer. Maybe you even like Apple or Microsoft. Necessarily, it doesn’t mean you are a true fanboy, that just implying you fit into any of these particular sorts. 

The Google Fanboy

 

Google is a very important company nowadays as it’s natural for people to be all about Google, that is, plethora of services, search engine and email service, etc. run our daily lives. So, to be a true Google fanboy, are there any signs?

• Never ever considering using OneDrive, Safari or any other services compete with Google. 
• When happening to buy an iPhone or whatever smartphones, you would still stick to nothing but Google applications and services. 
• Have any Google swag (including branded shirts, hats, figurines, etc.) or tattoos? Come on, you are nearly to be a fanboy! 
• Get excited over everything related to Google, for example, spending up to $1,500 on a Chromebook Pixel. 

The Android Fanboy

Comparing with others, Android fanboys are more common around the world for obvious reasons. Now let’s take a look at those signs what make an Android user a fanboy. 

• For the reason of Android’s open nature, you consider it the best mobile OS in the world. 
• You’re obsessed with your phone whether the bootloader is unlocked or not. It’s like making sure everything is right with the world.
• Though an android fan, you’re also likely to try applications and services from non-Google companies.
• You all love to talk about how diversse the operating system is and also you all love to make it look however you want, for example, making awesome-looking home screens all the time .
• You tend to take a stand when carrier store wanna sell you an iPhone over an Android device or even get in arguments in forums while comparing an iPhone and an Android device. 

The Apple Fanboy

Well, the Apple fanboys, actually, everyone seems to have a special place in their hearts for them. Here we have to admit that Apple is ranked as the #1 most valuable company in the world, so that there’s bound to some avid or even rabid followers. Now let’s look into symptoms. 

• You won’t touch Android or anything else as thinking that Apple is supreme and nothing could beat it. 
• You think most of competitiors, especially Samsung, are cheap copycats that take Apple’s ideas.
• You own a MacBook, an iPad, an iPhone, an Apple TV, an Apple Watch and are even looking into Apple’s rumored car. 
• You like iOS operating system and feel everything is smooth and convenient.

The Samsung Fanboy

Out of all Android manufacturers out there, Samsung is the biggest and baddest. And undoubtedly, it’s Apple’s biggest competitor. Thus there are majority of Samsung knights who face any opponent daring question the company’s greatness and honor. 

Are you a Samsung fanboy? Let’s look at the signs. 

• Plastic was fantastic and nobody could convince you metal and glass combination could be better until Samsung itself embraced such a combination design.
• Among all devices, Samsung is king and anything else is second rate. 
• You would talk about Samsung is a main reason for Android to stay alive continuously. 
• You’ve never thought and believed Samsung copied anything from Apple.

The Wearable & IoT Fanboy

This is a new breed of fanboys as wearables, smart prodcuts and IoT devices boomed this instant and people are going nuts over them.

• These guys own a smartwatch, loving it so much that they can’t stop using it.
• Some will prefer to play games and type with their smart watches even if it’s easy to reach their phones. 
• You may take up a new coffee habit as the idea of a smart and automatical coffee machine starts every morning sounds amazing.
• You probably have a smart lock that can operate with app.

What if I am that mobile fanboy?

Actually, there’s nothing wrong with being a fanboy of Android, Google, Apple, Samsung, Microsoft or even BlackBerry. Whatever! 

While, we are hoping the reason why you prefer a brand or platform over another is because they have proven to be the best choice for your specific needs. 

And, we are hoping that you won’t become a stereotypical fanboy. You are who you are, and you can have your own preference. Don’t follow blindly. 

At the end of the day, we all use diverse devices to improve and enjoy our lives. Diversity is a beautiful thing.

But, if you have to make a choice, which fanboy group would you rather be identified with? Where do you feel you belong more? I would say I would fall somewhere between the Apple and Wearable fanboy groups.
