A team of experts recently put the Huawei P60 Pro through a rigorous audio test to measure its ability to record sound using the built-in microphone and play audio through the speakers. In this article, let’s check how it performed in tests.
The Huawei P60 Pro performed well in audio tests, both in playback and recording. The Huawei does best when playing music, and it also does well when playing games and watching movies. The recording quality of the front camera is also quite good, the main camera recording and the recording of the notes app are not very good.
Tonal balance in playback is satisfactory, and functionality in playback and recording is also great. Recordings with high SPLs, such as electronic concerts, usually do not distort excessively. But the measurements revealed an inconsistent distribution of volume steps. Unwanted audio artifacts are generally well-controlled, but experts noted some bass distortion at all volume levels and some compression at maximum volume. Testers found that the proper speakers were easily obscured when holding the device, but the effect on tone and volume was negligible.
In recordings, testers found sound to be mediocre, with dull tonal balance and lackluster treble when using the main camera app. Mids are wonderful in all test cases, and bass benefits from good low-end extension, but can sound overly boomy when recording loud concerts. When recording loud concerts, the envelope was accurate and lifelike, but there was a serious lack of treble when recording with the main camera app, meaning plosives could sound weak. The signal-to-noise ratio is excellent for all applications, though.
It is terrific of the breadth of the sound scene recorded by the Huawei , and the distance reproduction is also accurate. Localization of individual sound sources is generally good, but when recording with the main and selfie cameras, the location of sounds in the scene tends to be blurred. The device is prone to finger noise and occlusion of the microphone. Background tonal balance is pleasing and non-intrusive in most use cases, but it can sound dull in main camera recordings.
