DJI’s new product, Osmo Pocket is a handheld gimbal camera that combines mobility and stability, as the name suggests it tiny enough to fit in your pocket. It’s able to shoot 4K footage at up to 60 frames per second at 100Mbps, capture 12-megapixel photos, and it has dual microphones for recording audio. Since it’s called the perfect shooting camera for Vloggers, the battery life of DJI Osmo Pocket matters a lot.

DJI announced that Osmo Pocket features a 140-minute battery life at 1080p 30ftps and around 2 hours at 4K. Is it enough for you to shoot a full video? It really depends, for a videograph starter like me, it may take me a half day outside to get the pictures I want. Besides the backup battery pack, I need to find a way to quick charge DJI Osmo Pocket.

Let’s check the power cable in the box first, it’s a normal USB-C to USB-A power cable, no charging index nor power adapter included. That means the speed of charging mainly counts on the power output of adapter. The methodology of calculating the charging time is: battery energy/charging voltage/charging current/conversion rate (generally 70%)

The battery energy of DJI Osmo Pocket is 6.738Wh, if you use a 5V 1A conventional iPhone charging adapter, however, the charging time will be more or less 2 hours, which means you charge 2 hours and use for an equal 2 hours, it sounds quite disappointing. I would recommend you to use a higher power output charger, like this Anker Elite 24W 2-port quick charger $10.99, it’s able to deliver 5V 2.4A power so the charging time can be reduced to 45 minutes.

May I charge the DJI Osmo Pocket via USB-C at same time as using it? Yes, you can connect the Osmo Pocket to any USB-C source and use it at the same time, so using a Power Bank to recharge it on the move is an effective way to keep it running and charging . Additionally, a quick charge output power bank is a must-have accessory for DJI Osmo Pocket, as the original power cable is USB-C to USB-A, a power bank with USB-C input would a perfect companion as you can use the C to A cable to recharge the power bank as well.
Recommendation: EasyAcc 20000 mAh USB-C Portable Charger $49.99

– It contains a green 5V 3A quick charge output, capable of boosting the charging speed and reduce the charging time to 38 minutes.

– Double input which includes a USB-C, perfectly match with DJI Osmo Pocket.

    1. If your charger is a brand one, yes, feel free to use it since the charging current will be adjusted according to the maximum charging limit of the device.

      1. I wonder if the Huawei Supercharger, both the brick and its cable, that came with my P20 Pro is possible for this? It shows output as 5V 2A or 4.5V 5A or 5V 4.5A

      2. Yes, you can do it. Use both the Huawei cable and the charger to charge your Osmo, my team mate used the Huawei Mate 20 Pro cable and charger to charge Osmo, and it’s hassle-free.

  1. Did you actually try with a battery pack or is it a theoric analysis based on dji osmo pocket battery specs and power bank specs?

I am interested because besides the million reviews, nobody seems to have covered that aspect, which is to me a go/no-go.
