What to do when your phone gets wet (without Rice)

If you drop a personal electronic device, including cell phones, ipods, baby monitors, hearing aids, two-way radios, etc, in water don’t panic, it can probably be saved. Most importantly, remove the battery from the device and dry off any visible water from the outside with a dry towel. Removing the water from inside as quickly as possible is now imperative. Using rice to do so is too slow and ineffective. There is a better way!

1.Remove the device from the source of the moisture (e.g. toilet, rainstorm, or sweat pocket)

2 Take out the battery (and SIM card for phones)and dry off the device and its components with a dry towel.

3.DO NOT place them in a bowl of rice. Dust from the rice can get inside of the buttons, ports, and on circuits and can damage them.

4.Place the device and all of the components in a product like Save-A-Phone to rapidly remove the moisture.

5.The moisture indicator will turn from blue to pink telling you that there is still water inside of your device.

6.Wait for moisture indicator to turn back to blue which assures you that your device is dry.

7.DO NOT attempt to turn the device on to see if it is working unless you are absolutely sure that all of the moisture has been removed.

8.Once the device has been completely dried, replace the rechargeable battery or with new disposable batteries, and attempt to power up the device.

9.Back up all data immediately!

Tips
Have a Save-A-Phone on hand before the inevitable occurs!
If your device goes into sticky liquid like beer, cider, or eggnog, remove the battery and place the device in distilled water for a minute or so. Remove from the water and place in a Save-a-Phone.
